Klarword is designed for a computer. You can read these pages here, but to transcribe, open the site on a desktop or laptop: the model weighs hundreds of megabytes and the computation runs on your machine.

Terms of use

Short terms, because there is little to settle: Klarword receives, stores and processes none of your recordings.

Purpose

Klarword is a transcription and subtitling tool that runs in your browser. Recordings are processed on your device; the site's publisher has no access to them and receives no copy.

Consent of the people recorded

You alone are responsible for the recordings you transcribe. Before recording someone, you must inform them and, where the law requires it, obtain their consent. In France, recording or passing on without their consent words spoken privately or confidentially by a person is an offence under article 226-1 of the Criminal Code; other countries have similar rules.

When a recording contains personal data, you are the controller within the meaning of the GDPR: it is up to you to determine the legal basis, inform the people concerned, set the retention period and respond when they exercise their rights. As Klarword never receives the data, it is not a processor for this processing.

Automatic transcription

The transcript is produced by a statistical model. It may contain errors, omissions or misattributed words, especially for proper names, overlapping voices and poor-quality recordings. It must be proofread before any use where accuracy matters, and is not a certified transcript.

The models

The speech recognition models come from Whisper, released by OpenAI under the MIT licence, in their ONNX conversion published by the onnx-community. The compute engine is onnxruntime-web (MIT licence) and the library that uses it, transformers.js (Apache 2.0 licence).

Availability and liability

The service is provided as is. The publisher endeavours to keep it available but does not guarantee that it works on every device and browser. It cannot be held liable for the loss of unsaved work, nor for the use made of transcripts.

Paid plans

The Pro, Team and self-hosted plans are subject to a quotation and an invoice setting out their content, price and term, which prevail over these terms for what they cover.
